Michiel Delanghe is a Belgian conductor shaping a new operatic language where tradition meets urgency and music becomes theatre in its most immediate form.

 

At the core of his work lies a distinctive, deeply collaborative approach. He builds processes in which singers, composers, directors and musicians are actively engaged in shaping the performance from within, creating interpretations that are both precise and alive. This way of working has made him a natural partner for contemporary creation, while equally informing his approach to the repertoire.

 

In the 2025–26 season, he appears twice at La Monnaie, including the world premiere of Medusa by Iain Bell, directed by Lydia Steier. This moment reflects a growing artistic momentum and a strong vote of confidence from one of Europe’s leading opera houses.

 

Alongside his conducting career, he serves as Artistic & General Manager of the International Opera Academy, where he invests in a new generation of artists who combine technical excellence with curiosity and a willingness to take risks.

 

His work is driven by a desire to connect ideas, people and disciplines, creating performances that resonate with clarity, intensity and a strong sense of shared purpose.
